Matt Ashford
Matthew has worked in multiple elite sports, having supported elite athletes on the youth talent programme in British athletics for the past four years, and spent several years leading the design and delivery of sport psychology programmes within Aston Villa Football Club and Leicester City County Cricket club. Together, this experience has led Matthew to acquire extensive know-how in driving and sustaining psychological excellence within elite environments at multiple levels of the organisation.
Matthew moved into esports in 2022 and has worked with several top-tier European esports organisations such as G2 Esports and Team Solary to develop their players and coaches across a range of psychological competencies, whilst in his previous role as Performance Lead with the International Federation of Esports Coaches, Matthew worked closely with a team of industry-leading experts to create their coach development courses and serve as a consultant for several esports organisations. Motivated to draw on his applied experience to progress the scientific field of sport psychology and esports. Matthew has lectured on the BSc in Esports at the University of Northampton, delivered a talk on how to create sport psychology programmes in esports at the Esports Coaching and Performance Summit, and has several research publications in print across esports, sport psychology and professional development.
